Campus blood drives have saved more than 1,100 lives in the Shreveport community Since coordinating their first blood drive with LifeShare just a few months after their opening day, Remington College-- Shreveport Campus has been a valuable participant in LifeShare's efforts to save lives. During the Campus's very first blood drive in October 2007, a single bus stationed at the Campus drew 20 donors. The next blood drive, held in February 2008, drew 31 donors. And the Campus's commitment to participate kept growing. LifeShare eventually established a blood drive schedule designed to work around the shot schedules of the Campus's medical students, coordinated by Marie Page, the Campus's Allied Health Department Chair. As word spread and Campus participation continued to grow, I met with Campus President Jerry Driskill to determine a better way of handling the number of donors willing to donate -- since the line was so long at times it was keeping some donors out of class too long! Together, Mr. Driskill and I developed a plan to have two donation buses on site for each drive, and we had each class sign up donors and asked them to visit the bus in that order. Along came Clark Riser, RN, a Campus medical instructor, whose efforts to organize the drives, recruit donors, and minimize the disruption to classes and instructors have helped to make the entire process so much more streamlined and fluid. We are all continuing to work together to devise ideas for making the blood drives as efficient as possible while maximizing the number of donors. All of this could not have happened without the help and support of Jerry Driskill, Clark Riser, and Campus Executive Assistant Grace Winter, each of whom has helped to make our drives what they are today. And we are still striving to make them better. LifeShare and I are grateful that this school has cared so much. But we also think this is just the beginning, and the best is yet to come. The College currently has plans to grow and expand, which will mean more blood drives at the school -- and yet more lives saved. Through Remington College -- Shreveport Campus's dedicated efforts and caring way, we believe there is no end to the number of lives they will save in the Shreveport community and beyond.
